About the Band

Ballarat Grammar Pipes & Drums is the school pipe band of Ballarat Grammar in Victoria, Australia. The band draws students from Year 4 to Year 12 and performs throughout the school year as well as at wider Ballarat community events. It is currently directed by Amber Ives for piping and Ed Roxburgh for drumming.

The band entered competition for the first time at Daylesford in 2016, initially competing in school uniform. In 2017, benefactor David Haymes of Haymes Paint helped kit the band out in Modern Holyrood tartan, giving the young group a more formal contest identity.

A major milestone came in 2022, when Ballarat Grammar attended its first Australian Pipe Band Championships in Sydney/New South Wales. The band placed 2nd in Grade 4B and was named Grade 4B Drumming Champion, a strong result for a relatively young school band.

Ballarat Grammar has also become part of the wider Victorian pipe band scene by hosting the Ballarat Grammar Pipe Band Contest, with the 2025 event noted as the fourth consecutive year the school hosted the contest.
