Balerno & District Schools Pipe Band is a school and community youth pipe band serving pupils around Balerno and the surrounding west Edinburgh villages, including Balerno, Kirknewton, Ratho, Currie and nearby areas. It was set up as a project to create and develop piping and drumming opportunities for local school pupils. The Scottish Schools Pipes and Drums Trust lists the band as receiving a start-up grant in February 2018, supporting pupil presentations, a Kick Start weekend, and early club/band practice.

The band is linked with Balerno High School and the wider school music community, and has appeared at school concerts, fundraising events and youth piping activities. Balerno High School notices show the band continuing to recruit and perform locally, including a 2026 call for a bass drummer.

Balerno & District Schools Pipe Band has also taken part in youth-focused events such as the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships, with its own public video archive noting a first competition appearance at the 2023 Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championship.

In short: a modern schools pipe band doing exactly the job the scene needs, getting youngsters onto chanters, pads, drums and eventually the grass.
